Are you eating enough Protein?

Are you eating enough protein? We thought we were until we actually started tracking our macros. Since I learned that it is recommended that we consume about 1 gram per pound of body weight I have been diligently using my kitchen scale to weigh my food. I’m focusing on macros NOT calories. As we age we naturally lose muscle mass and it becomes harder to gain muscle. We need our muscles to help us age better. Dr Mark Hyman has a lot of content on the subject, I recommend you check it out.
Fruits and veggies are important but simple carbs are taking a toll on our health. I like the visual of the new food pyramid and its emphasis on REAL food! We haven’t looked to the Food Pyramid for nutritional advice in over 20 years, having experienced food sensitivities with our oldest son that left us journaling everything he ate. It seems as though the usda has caught up with what many of us knew.
Get your scales out and start weighing your food. The key is getting enough protein to maintain our muscles. Here’s a site that I use. Macro Calculator. Let me know what you think.
In good health
